scientists: how do we stop the very infectious and damaging tobacco mosaic virus from spreading????
farmhands: dip ur hands and equipment in Milk™️ before touching them
scientists: ????wait how does that work
farmhands:
Basically all nightshades are vulnerable to the tobacco mosaic, right? So as a home gardener, washing my hands and tools in milk before handling tomatoes stops it? I have never heard of this! Does it need to be whole milk or will it work with any milk? Would it work with lactose free milk?
WAIT WAIT WAIT WHAT
I need to look into this.
farmer, looking at his crops: “he need some
milk”
Farmers, especially older folks who’ve been doing things a long time in the same way, know a lot of wild tricks like this, but most won’t tell you unless they like or trust you. For example, I learned every weird little tip I know about raising chickens from some old (60-70+) guys who’d been raising chickens their whole lives, after taking care of communal chicken barns for 3 county fairs or so.
Basically what I’m trying to say is that much like wizards, elderly farmers will exchange powerful magic in return for manual labor.
